Randy Sing Horticultural Supervisor

Randy Sing has over 33 years’ experience working at Botanic Gardens of Sydney and is currently the Nursery Supervisor at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney. Randy oversees the upkeep of all plants in the Nursery, ensuring they’re in good health and maintaining the infrastructure, which includes 12 glasshouses, shade houses, and full sun areas.

Randy is also responsible for managing a passionate team of horticulturists and leads the planning and execution of horticultural exhibitions at The Calyx, largest continuous indoor greenwall and is made up of over 18,000 plants.

A love of being outdoors is what drew Randy to his career in horticulture and he worked as a horticulturist in Government House Grounds and a Senior Horticulturalist before landing his current role at the Gardens in 2000. Randy has further honed his expertise through formal education, including an Advanced Certificate in Urban Horticulture and Office Supervision.

He was successful in securing a Foundation and Friends of Botanic Gardens of Sydney Scholarship to work at The Gardens by The Bay in Singapore, which he recalls as a remarkable experience. With a passion for all plants, Randy is able to find something interesting and special in each one. His favourite plant-related memory is experiencing the first flowering of the Amorphophallus titanium, ‘The Corpse Flower’, at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, which attracted more than 15,000 visitors over five days.

Outside of work, Randy loves to travel, cook and watch movies.

Randy is dedicated to his role at the Gardens and has a vision for it to become a true self-sustaining part of the landscape, valuing the greenspace above all else.
