Aboriginal Education Officers will provide a personal perspective offering how First Nations people of the Sydney area used plants for food, medicine, tools and weapons.
Students will have the opportunity to meet and interact with members of our First Nations communities.
Students will
- Explore communication methods used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to share ideas and information, e.g. dance, stories, music and art.
- Use terms relating to time to appreciate the length of Aboriginal settlement in Australia, engage with artefacts and identify a range of natural materials used by Aboriginal peoples.
- Examine a wide variety of local native plants within the Cadi Jam Ora garden which were integral in the life of the First Nations people for food, medicine, tools and weapons.

- Appreciate the connections that Aboriginal people have with their country.
- Touch, taste and smell native plants used for food, medicine, weapons, tools and shelter.
- Experience activities that Aboriginal people undertake in order to create strong connections with culture and the land.
- Gain an Indigenous perspective on key events in Australian history.
