About your Leader: Relle Mott

Relle Mott has been associated with the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney for many years as a member of the Education team, the Volunteer Guides group, and the Foundation & Friends. Relle has led tours for the Foundation & Friends to Japan, Uzbekistan and China sharing her love of plants, new cultures and destinations with like-minded travellers since 2013.

Relle dallied with architecture at university, studied in Japan, became a teacher, then entered the wonderful world of horticulture. Growing up in hot, dry Western Queensland, the lush coastal gardens of relatives imbued in Relle a love of tropical plants.

As a keen walker, Relle normally leads small groups on pilgrimage trails through the mountains of Japan several times a year. When at home she is a gardener, potter and sailor with a special interest in Japanese ceramics and the plant hunters of Asia in the 19th and 20th centuries.
