What is the event?

Inspired by a love of the traditional Bavarian festival and great beer, Oktoberfest in the Gardens features two massive beer halls, authentic German food stalls, roving performers, sideshow alley, silent disco and an eclectic mix of entertainment and competitions across multiple stages throughout the afternoon and evening.

Taste your way across Europe with a large selection of imported German beer, cider, wine and a range of other beverages. Last year’s event sold out, so make sure you get in quick!

The event takes place from 1pm to 9pm on Saturday 28 October. It is an 18+ event and up to 16,000 patrons are expected to attend.

Which areas of the Domain / Garden are impacted by this event and when?

The event will occupy the Phillip Precinct of the Domain from 23 October to 1 November 2023.

I am not attending the event, will I still be able to access the Domain / Garden on the event day/s?

Yes, the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney will be open as normal. 

While Oktoberfest takes place in the Phillip Precinct of the Domain and this area will be fenced from 23 October to 1 November 2023, other parts of the Domain ie. The Crescent Precinct, Tarpeian Precinct and Yurong Precinct will remain open as normal.
 

What will the traffic and access impacts be?

We encourage patrons to use public transport to and from the event:

  • Train: exit via St James, Martin Place or Circular Quay
  • Ferry: walk to The Domain from Circular Quay
  • Bus: for timetables, maps and trip planning visit www.transportnsw.info

Road Closures 

There are no road closures required for this event. However, some delays may be experienced during peak ingress and egress times. A vehicle drop off zone will be in place at the corner of Hospital Road and Art Gallery Road.

Footpath Closures 

Phillip Path and Central Ave will be closed from 7am on Monday 23 October until 6pm on Wednesday 1 November 2023. 
Arbor Day Walk will be closed on event day only from 11am on Saturday 28 October until midnight on Sunday 29 October 2023.

Parking restrictions / parking availability 

Limited paid parking is available on site and at the Domain Car Park (operated by Wilson Parking).

Mobility Pass Holder access

A dedicated event drop off zone will be operational on Saturday 28 October located on Hospital Road near the corner of Art Gallery Road. Parking is available at Domain car park with lift access to the Crescent precinct which is adjacent to the event site. 

Will the Terrace / Botanic Restaurant be open as usual?

Will there be any sound impacts related to this event?

Sound checks will be carried out on Saturday 28 October between 10am and 1pm followed by event sound from 1pm to 9pm.
